Three options, one material. The only real question is how you like to brush. Because the material is the part that matters. A 2025 PubMed-backed study confirmed plastic toothbrushes release up to 2.3 million microplastic particles per year, roughly 3,192 particles entering the mouth every single brush. Here's the mechanism: nylon bristles are spun from petroleum, and friction wears them down with every stroke, breaking off fragments too small to see or feel. Gum tissue is roughly 10x more permeable than skin, so those fragments absorb into the bloodstream rather than rinsing away, carrying BPA and phthalates with them. Nylon is also coarser than natural bristle, which is why firm brushing with it is linked to enamel wear and gum recession. Every one of these three uses real animal bristle instead, so none of that happens regardless of which you pick. What usually stalls the switch is not the argument, it is not knowing which version suits you. People buy a natural brush once, choose the wrong firmness, find it too rough or too soft, and quietly go back to plastic three weeks later. Or they assume going natural means giving up their electric entirely, so they never start. So here is the honest breakdown.
